ATTENDANCE
The rehearsal and performance schedule is set well in advance, allowing students to plan other activities and obligations around the established schedule. The Director should be notified IN ADVANCE if a student is going to be absent from a rehearsal or performance. Absences from band performances/rehearsals are unexcused unless due to (a) viable personal illness (parent request), (b) death in the family, (c) an emergency, or (d) special permission of the Director obtained in advance by the parent/guardian. Students must exhibit consistent responsibility in these areas.
AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES ARE ALMOST NEVER CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER UNLESS SCHOOL HAS BEEN CANCELED!
Your rehearsal/performance absence form should be submitted a minimum of 3 days prior to the missed event for known issues. For all other missed events, forms must be submitted on the day following the student’s return to school. Forms not submitted during the allotted time will automatically be considered an unexcused absence. Just because a form is submitted does not guarantee it will be counted as an excused absence.
WORK IS NEVER CONSIDERED AN EXCUSED ABSENCE. YOU HAVE A CALENDAR OF EVENTS, USE IT.
Students that have an unexcused absence from an after-school rehearsal will not be allowed to march in the following performance but are expected to attend the performance.
Multiple unexcused absences will result in disciplinary action (see band handbook for details).
